I am Interested! What's Next?
There are several ways to proceed depending on what your preference is. You can contact us to set up a personal meeting by filling out this form or you can attend an informational meeting to learn more. Once you know you want to begin the process, you need to attend training and start the licensing paperwork. Or if your family is already licensed and you want to transfer to Christian Heritage, the process can begin immediately.
If you are ready to get started, fill out the online form below and a foster care recruiter will call you.
Step One - Training
The State of Nebraska requires all foster parents to complete the 27 hour Foster PRIDE/ Adopt PRIDE pre-service training. Christian Heritage foster parents receive an additional 15 hours of training during PRIDE. All the training occurs in a workshop setting which focuses discussion and information on topics related to fostering including the role and responsibilities of foster parents, payment rate, resources available to foster parents, preparing families for placement, the effect of separation on children and subsequent behaviors to expect from the foster child, how to be sensitive to the foster child's curcumstances and working with birth parents.
Christian Heritage conducts this training several times a year throughout the state. This is done in three hour sessions twice a week (generally Monday and Thursday evenings) over seven weeks.
Twenty-four hours of ongoing training must also be obtained by each foster parent during the license period.
Step Two - Licensing
Licensing is required by state law to assure that children are placed in an environment which meets minimum standards for health and safety. There is no fee for foster parents to be licensed. This is a time-consuming process, but relevant to the safety of children in foster care.
Fingerprints, references, home studies and personal interviews are conducted, along with various forms and other state and federal security checks. Licenses are valid for two years. Prior to the end of the license time period, foster parents will receive a renewal application to complete. Issuance of a foster care license, however, does not guarantee placement of children in a home by any public or private agency.
